We're tasting stouts for our HOPS meeting this evening at Pagosa Brewing Company at 6 pm. We didn't saddle a color group with the responsibility for beer so please bring an interesting stout to share (2 12-oz bottles or a single bomber) and we'll try them along w/ the great stouts the brewery has on tap right now.

Pagosa Brewing Company is hosting a stout competition on January 4, 2013, and we'd like a few club members who are not entering a stout into the competition to help with stewarding activities for the competition. I believe the Yellow color group is bringing beers this month but since we're just rolling over membership years from 2011 please feel free to bring any browns you'd like even if you're not in the Yellow group. Tony still has lots of great stouts on tap at the brewery for Stout Month, too. Woohoo!

I'm including a message from local homebrewer Bill Trimarco below. Bill is involved with the local United Way chapter based in Pagosa Springs and I chatted with him recently about their upcoming annual appreciation celebration in April. We'd like to get HOPS club members together to brew some beers that we can donate to the event and use to help support United Way.
We will send out more details soon and we should brew by early March to give the brews sufficient time to be ready by the event in early April. Post any suggestions or thoughts you have about this on this thread and we'll take everything into consideration. What better way to support charity than to make homebrew!

Sometime in early April (the date is yet to be determined), United Way of Archuleta County is holding an appreciation celebration to thank all who have so generously contributed to their funded programs. Since United Way uses most of the donations to fund beneficial community organizations, they are looking for ways to hold this party without spending donated money. I was planning on giving them a couple of cases of homebrew. How about a HOPS brew day with the results being given to United Way for their get together? This would also get us invited to the party to help drink our products. Let me know if anyone is interested. We will meet at the Bear Creek in Pagosa Springs tomorrow at 6 pm for this month's First Friday Out (FFO). Come on out and enjoy a beer with other club members and we can begin planning our upcoming pub crawl in Durango. We've had good conversations with some Durango breweries recently and it looks like the pub crawl could be a pretty cool event.

I'm sending a reminder for the August First Thursday Out (FTO) tonight at the Archuleta County Fair. We'll hang out around the beer tent from 5 to 7 pm this evening and swap beer tales...or at least have a brew or two and talk about how the beer competition went this morning. Come join us at the fairgrounds (near the intersection of U.S. 84 and U.S. 160) tonight and grab a funnel cake at the fair while you're at it!
